History
The Toledo Rural Fire Protection District was formed in 1958 covering the rural area outside of the City of Toledo. A contract agreement was signed with the City of Toledo Fire Department to provide services to the district, which still exists today. In 2005, further areas were annexed into the district, east from Sams Creek Road on Hwy 20 including the rural communities of Chitwood and Eddyville and approximately 2 miles up Nashville Hwy. In 2019, the district was renamed East Lincoln County Fire County Rural Fire District. After many attempts to find funding to build a fire station in Eddyville, the district received a grant from the State of Oregon to fund the construction of the station. January 2025 - the station design plans have been completed and building permits issued. Once a general contractor is selcted, construction will begin. In addition to services from Toledo FD, as of January 2025, the district is starting it's responding to calls with volunteers directly affiliated with the district.
